Amelia’s dream in silk crepe and lace

How it feels to have your gown made: a guest blog by real bride Amelia

INSPIRING INDIVIDUALITY

Summer bride Amelia married Archie on a beautiful August day in a pure silk crepe gown with corded lace overlay, low back and cap sleeves. Amelia had wonderful ideas, which were allowed to evolve through the flexible process of having her gown custom made with our “Design Your Own Wedding Dress” collection.

“…For many brides choosing their wedding dress is one of the most important and testing parts of the planning process; having never been into fashion myself I assumed that I would be an exception to the rule and be more relaxed about the outcome … I was wrong. After weeks of looking at dresses online and visiting dress shops I was still unable to find “the one”, I was convinced that I would have to settle with something I wasn’t completely happy with until, on the off chance, I ran across Caroline’s website.

So I turned up on Caroline’s doorstep feeling apprehensive; I had a few ideas in my head but nothing concrete and was sure I would end up with just another dress. Then I started talking to Caroline and I knew immediately that she would make me something perfect.

Having a dress made is a very different experience; you have to have faith in your dressmaker as you never really see your dress until it has been made. You would expect this means many a sleepless night but working with Caroline was one of the most amazing experiences, and she makes you feel secure every step of the way.

My dress was a silk A-line skirt with a long train; the bodice was strapless and cut into a low V at the back with a lace overlay that sat just off the shoulders. However, the final design changed many times through the process in order to create the final masterpiece.

Each time I left my appointment I would have a niggling feeling or concern about the dress (big day nerves?) and either want to clarify a point or make a change to the design, so I would have to contact Caroline again; nothing was too big a request. Caroline’s expertise meant that I had the best materials and a dress that really suited not only my shape but also my personality, my impression is that she really puts her heart and soul into the dresses that she makes.

Planning a wedding always means there are ups and downs and you are guaranteed to wonder if you’ve made the right choices. Having Caroline make my dress was one of the best decisions I made; I had my dream dress for my dream day and I would highly recommend her to anyone!
